S: Uhad another idea. I am going to be talking to Yost. I11 keep
you read in over the next hour or hour and a half. It's to marry the ideas
in our paper, Yost's and Barbour's. I tal ked to Rabin to let him know. I
said I'm afraid I can't find the answer. I'm going to let him sweat. Wally
told me my talk did some good. Apparently it shook the Madam somewhat.
And then your talk following told them that there was no difference of view
between us and it shook them up.
K: Also I told him as a personal friend that he should save his credit
for the big MXX issues.
S: I told Wally to tell the Israelis we prefer that we ourselves make
the announcement. I suggested noon today (6:00 tonight in Israel). The
reason is that the sooner we announce it, the more we freeze it. I am now
going out with a cable to Cairo saying that we want to make it at noon out
time, and please get the Egyptian okay.
K: Okay, I have ditex edited the statement.
S: You aren't supposed to have it.
K: I know, on a personal basis.
S: And I will tell the Secretary to concert it with the White House.
Okay?
K: Yes, that's okay. There's no question of protocol.
