D: Can't you tell Mike Wallace look I love you but I am messed up with
Nancy -- I know he won't believe that. I did what President Nixon's PR
man said. I told old Herb Klein I am supposed to call Henry. He said
don't do that I am supposed to call Haldeman first.
K: He has tentatively set September 11 and I can't do it. It is so messy
now that I won't do anything.
D: You talk about moral obligations -- I don't think you should go on Mike
Wallace's show if you can't go on ours.
K: They have already shot footage.
D: What do I do?
K: Nancy, you are rallying against the wrong person.
D: Whom do I call -- Herb Klein or do I call President Nixon.
K: You can call him, but no one makes me do anything in the PR field.
D: Why didn't you call me?
K: I thought you were in a roadblock -- I once decided to do it for Sandy
Vanocur -- I thought I would embarrass you if I called.
D: I can give you all the time you want.
K: I wanted no more than 25 minutes.
D: You don't know what I had to do to get that - - they never even did it for
David and Julie. You don't know how many phone calls I made how many
individuals
Don't you do it. You know how it is with a virgin.
K: No, I never had that experience -- that got to you?
D: No it didn't because I don't believe that.
K: Let me think about what can be done. It is totally out of the question to
do it four days before Mike Wallace. Nancy, I would have preferred to do it
last week.
