K: I won't have time to see you before Kichi meeting but I XXXIX may have you
stand by to come in.
F: Does the President know where we stand?
K: No. The thing is he wants Stans to be aboard.
F: He is. I haven't talked with him today on the latest. Mikejix Mitchell must
have gotten to you.
K: He called me. [was in fact in for lunch]
F: We will downgrade the level of negotiations and the signing will be upgraded
to his level.
K: Maury agrees with what you are doing?
F: Yes. We are using his guy Rex Reid. He doesn't agree that he is persona
non grata and shouldn't carry on the negotiations. ? ? ? ? ? ?
K: I agree with that.
F: But he is not persona non grata.
K: I don't think we should have a foreign government telling us who are
negotiator should be. The Japs haven't been that gentle with us.
F: Yes but Miazawa thinks Maury was insulting to the Prime Minister.
K: I will see if I can get you 10 mins. with the President.
F: Only if he feels he needs it.
