L: Okay. One other thing I wanted to mention. That military
assistance package. It's now turned off till the Congress goes back?
K: Isn't it too late to go forward with it now? There's never been
a consensus on this thing.
L: We've got it and something Alex is for, but Bill Rogers won't
sign it because he says the President doesn't want to do it till after the
election.
K: Let me check on it. But isn't it too late now?
L: Maybe, but we should inform them that we'll be asking for this
in November. I would like at least to tell my senior committee people.
K: I think you are right and should do SO.
L: I've got to let these people know we've got this big request
hanging fire here.
K: I will take it up with the President. But with all these private
deals between Johnson and Packard I can never get on top of the pro blem. But
I think you should tell your committees.
L: I klx should tall the appropriation and armed services committees.
These people are for uts. This budget is driving me nuts.
