We have asked Crawford from NY to talk with you.\nCrawford: I don't think we have problems.\nK : You don't have them, we do.\nC: The thing that bothers News is circumscribing the questions\nin\nadvance\nbut if we say ******* going to be on the report and say\nSO openly and say we want XXX amplification of it --\nK: That's what I can do. I have no problems of talking on the\nsubstance. But if he says \"what you say on Communist China is mild\"\nI can say that's fair but if he wants amplification then I am in\ntrouble. But if he wants background stuff this I can do. It's not\nan effort to manage\nthe news but me out of the news.\nC: If we get beyond these points\nBK: Saying it's a senitive job --\nC: You could say you couldn't go beyond what you have said then we\ncan go beyond to the next question.\nK : If I can say that it's not for a WH aide to go into substance then\nI will answer your questions.\nC: It's a practical thing. We can agree on the general areas on\nwhat questions will be but what happens XX if a question goes beyond\n-\nfor\nK : Then I will say that. But the normal thing an interviewer\nto do is ask about withdrawal policy or say what do you say when\nwe are down to\nmen?\nBK: If we pick up the substance on Cambodia and try to get into\ntiming, saying they put that sentence in\nK: If you understand I want to stay away from substance. For\ninternal reasons.\nBK: If you want to say I can only go SO far --\nK : If I can do that in the beginning and say I don't generally speak\non substance\nBK: If question goes beyond what is comfortable and you might be\nunfomfortable about it."
