Henry Hubbard
7:45 p.m., June 17, 1971 -- page 3
H:
He goes on to say that you asked him to redo the options study.
K:
Now, does that sound plausible to you?
H:
No, but that's why I am here.
K:
Your policy is based on deceiving the American people and I would
ask him to redo the options study?
H:
He was one of the set.
K:
Six or whatever the number was.
H:
I don't know if I can talk you into it but it might be useful -- with
regard to releasing of the documents and your comment that it is
a disaster, I would like to attribute it to you.
K:
No, no, no.
H:
It might be comforting to some of the other nations to know that the
White House feels this way.
K:
No, I don't want to.
H:
Attribute it to an aide or something like that.
K:
Source.
H:
As far as your comments on McNamara doing the study --
K:
What?
H:
To help and consult on the McNamara report.
K:
Yeah, I advised on the papers. I never saw the finished product until
this week.
H:
I wanted to be sure we could use the fact that McNamara asked you
to.
K:
You know I did but it never went anywhere. I looked over the papers
but I didn't write anything.
H:
How long?
