Hello.
VP:
Henry, you wanted to talk to me.
K:
Yes, Mr. Vice President. There are a number of delicate
things going on now which I would be glad to explain to you in
greater detail early next week. One thing is
Gromyko next week. So while we don't object to the major
thrust of your speech, there was some phraseology we thought
we could quiet down a bit.
VP:
The thing that distressed me about it is the fact that the quota-
tions that have been deleted are those which have said by me
to other
K:
But it is one thing for Moorer to say it before a Congressional
Committee and another thing for the Vice President to say it
to the public at a time when things are delicate.
VP:
Well, we will do what you want us to but it is going to give us
a gum-droppy speech.
K:
Well, you can make an attack on the Democrats about they're
wanting to cut down on Defense.
VP:
We can't mention the Navy?
K:
Yes, you can mention the Navy - just cut that part down a bit.
VP:
OK, we will take care of it.
K:
