JK: Calling because I want some sense to what degree Secy. Connally was KNK
turned around. Political dimension put into the equation?
HAK: No question about it. Off the record?
JK: Absolutely.
HAK: It's obviously the political dimension which has been put in it and is going to
have to received increasing attention. Tactical force and tones but
in it now.
JK: When and in what circumstances?
HAK: Don't want to go into that.
JK: I kadkexix take it the meeting last Wed. was important.
HAK: What meeting?
JK: You, Burns and Connally with the President last Wed.
HAK: That's right.
JK: Graceful on the part of the Secretary?
HAK: I don't like to use the word retreat. I think everybody - a graceful would be
closer. He is a man of strong convictions. Everyone understands basics now.
JK: Central to the meetings you are having now.
HAK: Can't settle itx at bilateral meetings and can;t have an economic system you
oppose ? ? ? and maintain it. It's in everyone's interest to be in the common
interest. If it grows over the next month now a solution inevitable. What specific
terms there are, that's different.
JK: A
rather then imposed settlement.
HAK: Keep me out of it.
JK: You know I have an interest. If you have some time I am a batchelor these
days SO come have dinner. Just call.
HAK: I will during this week.
