TelCon - May 14, 1972 The President - 9:20-9:45 Pres: Hello Henry, how are you? HAK: I'm fine, Mr. President. Pres: Raining down there. HAK: Yes, it is. Pres: What is the situation this morning? HAK: Well, it looks pretty good this morning. The attacks in An Loc are fairly low. Pres: But we're not discontinuing with our air strikes? HAK: No. Pres: It's a pause. HAK: That's right. We had over 200 tactical air in there yesterday. Pres: Where did they use the B-52's? HAK: They used almost all of the 52's in the Hue area. Pres: The little blocking operation got quite a play. HAK: Well, it was very successful. It came as a complete surprise. They claim 243 enemy killed, 123 weapons captured, 3 tanks destroyed, and 2 130mm guns captured. Pres: Now are they back ? HAK: Yes. Pres: So it was just sort of a very small action apparently? HAK: Well, accept that it had a psychological effect. And in that limited area it had a spoiling impact. Pres: Will is encourage them to do more of them HAK: I think SO.
