TELCON Frank Pace/Kissinger 12:30 p.m. - 8/4/72 K: Hello. P: Henry. K: Frank, how are you P: Fine, I had a chance to talk to Haig yesterday. K: He told me about it. I just wanted you to know that I got the message and that I didn't neglect to return your call earlier this week. P: You're very kind. Now do you generally - he told me that so far as he saw it he thought the way we were proceeding made complete sense and that he felt it was apparently sound. Do you share that view? K: That is right, yes. P: Sometime when I get a moment, I'm not going to move on this thing until really aggressively after the election, I'd like to get a direction or two from you on exactly how you see the Nixon Doctrine moving in terms of the implementation we are talking about. K: We with the bureaucracy after the election. I'm kidding! ! P: Also Henry I'm very pleased you're going to be with us in December. K: Let's hope that the post-election events won't - I don't mean because I'm afraid we'll lose - but even if we win if the President should go off to the Caribbean to reflect and want me with him. P: Oh yes, I always understand with you that's the chance we have to take but I'm sure you'll enjoy it. You'll have a lot of fun and it will be closed enough that it will give you some pleasure. K: And I appreciate it very much. P: What I would like to do while I could and while I'm down here is get 10 minutes with you so I can get a sense from you of where I ought to really primarily direct my attention in this thing.
