2 K: I wouldn't do that. P: (Laughs) I don't intend to. I'm going to say quite personal things. K: And I'd again hit some of the themes you hit this morning, Mr. President. You know about the need to stay firm in the West. P: Oh, good, good, good. I thought it was well to hit those with him, you know, if that's your friend Bahr - I was really K: No, that son-of-a-bitch is going to leak it straight to the Soviets which is fine. P: Does that bother you? K: No, that strengthens our negotiating position. P: Yeh, because it lets us - I didn't say anything nasty about the Soviets. K: Oh no, oh no. P: I said they are tough and strong and by golly, we've got to be tough and strong. K: Oh no, I thought it was well done. P: But Brandt was better this morning than he's usually been, I thought. K: Yeh, he was very confident - much better, much livelier. P: Now you keep your morale up. K: Mr. President, my morale is fine. P: Right. It's all going to come out. K: I'm absolutely confident of this. P: That's right, that's right. K: Now we have one problem, Mr. President, on the SALT negotiations. I don't want to plague you with all the details, but if we're going to make some progress I have to submit privately a paper to Dobrynin tomorrow.
