I just receive a telegram from Brezhnev from his plane addressed to the President. K: .. Right. D: I have just within 30 minutes dictated to Colonel Kennedy SO he has a text but if you don't mind I could read it now but he put it down. K: Please. D: (Reads) 'His Excellency Richard M. Nixon, President of the United States of America. "Leaving the territory of the United States of America, I express to you, Mr. President, to the government and to the people of the United States my sincere gratitude for the warm welcome and hospitality which were accorded during our visit and for the constructive spirit of our fruitful negotiations, I am confident that the work we did together over the last few days will well serve the interests of the peoples of our two countries and become a new important contribution to the stronger universal peace. "My very best wishes to you, Mr. President, to the members of your government and all the American people. L. Brezhnev Aboard IL-62" 11 And without this text he sends his personal best wishes to you, Mr. Kissinger or Dr. Kissinger as he put it. K: Thank you very much and I can tell you I have talked to the President this morning and he feels very warmly about this week and I have just given a press conference in which I summed it up in very positive terms.
