P:
I know. Don't worry. We aren't going to mark off one inch.
K:
XXXXXX
We have this problem Mr. President. We are
in the
driver's seat in the Middle East. For example, I've got the Egyptians
yesterday. The Russians you know sent 70 observers in and were
screaming at the Egyp tians that they had to take them. Well I worked
out with the Foreign Minister yesterday that they are going to send 40
of them back. The Egyptians are going to do it on their own SO we're
not involved because 70 is just too many in a 300 man force.
P:
Yeah. Good. Don't worry, I'11 be very
We'll take the line
on Dobrynin. I know exactly what to do.
K:
I would not get into too great specifics on the Third core.
P:
No, that's our deal. No, my feeling is this. The Camp David exercise
first is good P.R. It's look like something is going on that's a big daeal.
Second, it's good from the stand point that Brezhnev will think we are
giving him some attention (special). It doesn't cost us a damn thing and
then we give them
XXXXX nothing on the hard side.
K:
Exactly.
P:
Basically, it's software. But I would suggest that unless you hear
otherwise why don't you tell him that you will fly to Camp David to
see me at 5:00 here. That gives you the whole day there. Or is
that a bad time.
K:
Maybe a little later.
P:
Fine.
K:
Together with him.
P:
Yeah, I could have the meeting with him from 5:00 to 6:00 and then you
can have dinner or when do you want.
K:
Would it be good if we left at 6:00. and we'd be up at 6:30 and then I'd
spend half an hour with you. That's too close to dinner.
P:
No, don't worry about that because I'11 probably
I'11 probably have
a chance to talk to you earlier anyway.
K:
I can do it at 5:00 if that's more convenient for you.
