S: I wanted to call before I talk with him. I wanted to ask whether
or not you might conceivably change your mind on the Indonesians.
They really are the best people up here. They are the most responsible
by far.
K: I don't see how we can hold this line. Talk to the Israelis, but
we can't be beaten to death by the UN people. The Israelis are
beating us to death, betraying us and we have so many fish to fry.
S:

Indonesians in Viet Nam by all standardswere the most objective
of the non-aligned. They have talked about the practical need to get
along with both parties and Ambassador Sani is the only guy we've
had any support from.
K: We can't drift from one impossible position to another by tactical
exisgencies. Its absurd to have a force, one of who's membersis
opposed to the others.
S:X All Ican say the votes on the composition of this force was held
more than 40 times this morning.
K: That will be our fate on a lot of things.
S: Sure isn't any give on the Indonesians, since we know what they're
like.
K: When do you have to know?
S: In the next 45 minutes.
