Telcon Secretary Kissinger Senator Scoop Jackson 11/20/73; 9:21 a. m. - 2 - K: No, no. This I didn't know about. But Peter Flanigan, to be honest, feels that I am killing the trade bill because I am insulting you by not being willing to accept the compromise you are dying to offer on the Jackson Amendment. J: Peter is naive. It's totally nonsense. K: That was my impression. J: You and I can have some honest differences but there is nothing personal in any of it. K: Oh, well J: We will have you over at the house soon. K: Well, I am a great admirer of yours. J: You know there is nothing in that. We have our minor disagreements but K: You are not ready to offer a compromise on the Jackson Amendment, are you? J: No. No. Listen, I am up to my eyeballs trying to get a few of these energy problems squared away. K: Well, I would like to talk with you -- I mean I will be glad to include the Amendment but I think J: I would like to hear about your trip. K: Well, that's what I think. We ought to have a review of the whole international situation. J: Well, I would like to sit down and kick it around with you. K: When -- what are your plans. J: Well, I am going to get away Thanskgiving Day. My wife and I are just going down to Williamsburg for a couple of days just to rest up and do a little catch up on the reading. You know I haven't had a chance. It's been hell here.
