TELECON General Scowcroft/Secretary Kissinger March 6, 1974 1:07 pm K: Did you talk to Vorontsov? S: Yes I did. K: Was he pleased? S: He seemed very very pleased. He said he would pass it right on. and get back to us with a recommendation. K: And that I'll get there the evening of the 17th and I am not going anywhere from there. S: That's right, that's what I told him. he said he had seen some items in the press and he thought over there and back was enough for one trip. K: He had, huh. S: The only place he was at all hesitant was on the press. K: Well, I don't have to take them, I just want to know what their schemes are. S: Well, I said that the press has gotten into the habit of expecting to go and that you are seeking their views and the only thing he said was well, you know I think that the General Secretary would not want to think that we would have to say anything at all necessarily every day and it may be confining to feel that we need to. So I said, well if you would just pass this on and we are seeking your views. But he was very pleased overall. K: OK. S: How did it go ? K: Oh, it was easy. They are not out to get me. S: I told Larry, but I'll tell you while I have you. The Vice President would be very appreciative if you could spend about ten or fifteen minutes before Friday to give him a run down on the trip. K: Absolutely, I'll do it tomorrow.
