2.
K: At least to hold it until after the embargo is lifted.
That would be a big help.
S: We will do what we can. Thirdly -- Iran. The Air Force has
been
pressing for a letter of offer of the 15.
K: Fine.
S: Fine with me except I want to be sure that we have the letter
right and all of the details nailed down.
K: Wait for that. We are going to make an offer to the Shah
similar to King Faisel's. Why don't we want and add it into those
discussions.
S: I will delay as long as it is reasonable.
K: I am talking only about 10 days; at most . two weeks.
S: That is easy to do. MacDonald Duck of the Air Force is trying
to stir them up as much as possible. If they come back to you we
are not trying to derail but trying to make sure it does not screw
up our relations with the Shah.
K: Why should it?
S: The same problem I mentioned with the Saudis. If they discover
three or four years from now
K: That theyy can't fly the thing.
S: That they have been had. I want them to understand all the
problems they are inheriting.
K: That is the plane that plays the national athem for each nation as
it crosses the border -- automatically; and adds $800, 000 to the
cost of the thing.
S: I think you have the right airplane.
