K:
Like what?
G:
This
is
the
next
question.
This is all in French. I said, "[French]",
and again talking about the oil thing in terms of no planning. You know,
I reminded him of all the things
Some day, Henry, I must show
you however this Bill Bundy letter, and I'm sure you've heard from
Nancy the end of that thing, where he said the crisis is over, as I told
you, and France is now -- you know, that's how the whole thing ended.
K:
Yes, that's what he told me too.
G:
Unbelievable.
K:
He wanted to get me to say that he shouldn't print it. And I said, no,
I thought this was just putting a bandaid over a cancer.
G:
Now what is his game here, Henry? Is he anxious not to have anything
in there that would upset the Europeans? Is he anxious not to have
anything in there
K:
He is anxious not to have anything in there that supports the Administration.
G:
That's right. That is what I.
I mean this is what Dan Bell and Irving
Kristol and others said. But someday I must show you a letter from
him that is theoretically a letter of criticism. mean, this is not the
last one. In the end he simply said, it's all over, as I told you, I mean,
there is no problem anymore.
K:
Yeah. What are you going to do with his article.
G:
Well, this is the thing, Henry. There's nothing to do. I made a
change in the beginning and sent it to the Times. The Times felt
that their Laquer (?) piece is rather like it, which in a sense it is.
But what I now feel, and this is one of the many things I want to talk
to you about, I really feel that what I have in this article is the basis
for a very important longer article. Where do you public it in this
country. What is a serious journal? Again, you don't have the time
to read this foreign policy, but it's just unbelievable crud.
K:
You know I would have to say we are practically being
you know, we
had a good foreign policy going and they are now killing it.
G:
Yeah. But what can be done?
K:
They are moving to the right of us on detente.
G:
Absolutely. This is the thing.
