G:
Yeah. But it certainly doesn't sound that way.
K:
No, but it isn't true that we have ever had any controversy. That's
French pu blicity.
G:
Yeah, very interesting. Well I am going over for about - I'm leaving
a week Friday - for various things in connection with a book of
essays that I've edited that is coming out in Italy, and things, and
I really frankly to answer your question about what I want to do with the
article, I would like to make it into something better, but I frankly
don't know - you know, better in the sense of not fleshing it out and
dealing much more with the real difficulties of some of these x
mysteries (? ) But once you did, I have no idea in this country at this
moment where to put it. I have no idea who to offer it to.
K:
Yeah, I agree. Harper and SO forth wouldn't do it?
G:
Who reads Harper?
K:
Yeah.
G:
Who reads The Atlantic?
K:
Well, that's true.
G:
I mean, The Atlantic wouldn't do it. Harper's might, but who reads it?
So this is really, I think this is the most serious matter that exists,
that there is this kind of nostalgia for moments when we were able to
get on with our allies and when we were fairly tough with the Russians.
Again, what you say about detente is absolutely true.
K:
But look, they're not going to maintain their toughness. Do you think
that Hinster (? would be tough with the Russians for two years once
he got into office?
G:
But, Henry, he's never going to get in. I feel this SO intensely and SO
certainly
that would mess things up.
K:
Yeah, well that I'm sure of too. Besides he couldn't stay in even if
he got it.
G:
It's never gonna happen. But it is the creation of a myth that is going
to survive until the 1976 election.
K:
I know.
