2 Kissinger: I will call Ecevit. Callahan: Then on to the Greeks after that. We must get the record clear with them. Kissinger: In what way? Callahan: I have told the Greeks talks are available, so they have no excuse. Kissinger: Tell them I am in urgent contact with Ecevit on the cease-fire. Go ahead with your overture. Callahan: Yes. Kissinger: So that they can get a little courage. Callahan: You and I can exchange views when we have both talked to Ecevit on the cease-fire. Kissinger: Bring maximum pressure on him for a cease-fire. Callahan: I will twist his arm, but I don't have much influence. Kissinger: Try charm. Callahan: It doesn't work at 2, 500 miles. Kissinger: It works at over 3,000 miles. Callahan: The other thing is that we have had a long convoy of more than 1,000 cars and lorries out of Nicosia. It has reached our base area now. The tourists and dependents are now out of Nicosia. Here is a "tender report -- it suggests that Turkish planes have gone home. Three planes have been hit. Kissinger: Talk to you soon. Callahan: Alright.
