D: How are you?
H: Always busy.
D: Well, I would like to be advised on one point. You remember there was
a letter which you gave me, with a proposal regarding one of your men going
to my country in November. I now have received an answer in connection
with the letter from the President. We are prepared to receive him, and we
propose the week of Nov. 15
anytime during the week beginning from Nov.
15. I would need your advice or Henry's on how to proceed. We want to know
whether you will inform your man, or whether we should issue an invitation
to him, etc.
H: Yes, I understand.
D: I would like to verify this point because this is a delicate situation. So
you will check when Henry is back?
H: We will have an answer for you by Wednesday. Is that satisfactory?
D: Or tomorrow?
H: Well, maybe tomorrow evening.
D: Wednesday will be all right.
H: Mr. Ambassador, while I am speaking to you I wonder if Henry mentioned
to you the fact that Mr. Kendall wanted to discuss with you the visit of a trade
group to the Soviet Union.
D: No, I don't remember it.
H: Do you know who Mr. Kendall is?
D: No.
H: He is the head of Pepsi Cola.
D: Ah, yes, he mentioned it to me, but rather long, long ago. He said there
was a man who wanted to talk to me and he gave me some vague description.
He has not discussed it with me in recent months. But if Mr. Kendall would like
to speak with me there is no problem. Let him give me a call.
H: OK, Mr. Ambassador. And I will talk to Henry when he returns and give you
an answer either tomorrow evening or Wednesday.
