K:
Hello.
D:
Hello, Henry.
K:
Anatol, how are you?
D:
Now I feel as if you are here.
K:
You get two calls in a day. I just talked to the President about
this announcement. He would far prefer to make it as one announce-
ment preferably this weekend. You know I know what your problems
are, but I just wanted you to know his strong preference.
D:
Well, you see I would like to just have a delegation here with me
as a matter of fact. I'm calling from another room but they are
sitting in my room. The problem is for us I'll be very frank with
you. The situation is such that the negotiations on the actual deals
with the companies is being handled in New York and is delayed
and what we really are concerned about is that any kind of announce-
ment will immediately do a little jumping of the presses. And as
the deal is a very big one each dollar per ton makes millions of
dollars. So this is really the situation we are in here.
K:
In that case we would prefer to make rather one announcement
than two if possible.
D:
No, no, we think that one would be better but maybe could we make
it the middle of next week because
K:
The trouble is if it's right in the middle of the Democratic Convention
he would prefer then to do it the following Saturday.
D:
What would it be then
next Saturday then?
K:
Let me check with him whether he wants that.
D:
Please check. This is the only really trouble with us - that we don't
know whether we're going to be in a position on Friday to sign with
the companies because this is a million and million deal.
K:
Right. But after you've signed with the companies it will leak out
anyway. That's our worry.
