I said he thought he was P: K: Well, that'w what I figured, I figured that Sullivan would be running to a phone before he was out of the White House. Bunker told me that Harriman had been driving him crazy on the phone and he's having lunch with him today. P: Will Bunker know how to handle Harriman? K: Oh, yes. P: K: Oh, that's for sure. There is no problem with Bunker. He's as tough as they come. On this one Harriman is going to be even more irrational than on the others because this is his creation. He really caused this whole problem !by his Laos settlement of 1962. P: He opened the Ho Chi Minh Trail. Hell, I knew that. Oh, one other thing, Henry, I want to get -- get me an estimate of the total number of North Vietnamese who have come down the Ho Chi Minh Trail during the last five years. I'm sure the numbers K: Yeah. P: And the amount of supplies and guns. In other words, 10,000, 500,000 rifles, 2 men have come down the trail. That will make an enormous See what I'm driving at. As a selling point you say in the last six years so many men have come down this trail and killed Americans. K: Right. Oh, yes. P: We are stopping that. See. Isn't that a good one? Get that one little simple thing. Helms to give us an estimate number of men, how many rifles.
