Friday, August 31, 2007 Page 1 of 1 INTER-OFFICE MEMORANDUM Nixon for Governor RN aisc morrow Bob Haldeman Date: To: June 25 From: Al Moscow Subject: Salary Distribution: Price, Waterhouse needs authorization from you to make up deficit in my salary ($1,800 or $300 for past six months) and Jerry Gilberti suggests you either authorize one lump sum of $1,800 or apportion it out over July, Aug, Sept Oct. He seems to prefer the latter course. That would mean increasing my salary $450 per month, for a salary of $2,250 a month, starting July. INTER-OFFICE MEMORANDUM Nixon for Governor To: Date: Bob Haldeman August 2 From: Al Moscow Subject: Salary Distribution: In consultation with campaign accountants, there are two ways to make up the $1,800 in back salary: One, spread it out $450 each month for the remainder of the campaign, making my monthly fee $2,250. Two, Make the $1,800 payable* for July and then each successive month will be $1,800, with July paid at $3,600. In either event, it appears that I will be sending down to you each month my "services rendered" statement for your initialling. So, flip a coin and pick One or Two Ow NIXON FOR GOVERNOR July 30, 1962 For services rendered (July) $3,600. Alvin Moscow Special Assistant to Richard Nixon Mascan (am) (hrh) NIXON FOR GOVERNOR July 30, 1962 For Services Rendered (July) $2,250 Alvin Moscow Special Assistant to Richard Nixon (am) (hrh) INTER-OFFICE MEMORANDUM Nixon for Governor disc al To: Bob Haldeman Date: 4/18/62 1- check for fant-date From: Al Moscow a - shift salary Subject: to /800/month Distribution: PERSONAL for 10 months b - formalize agreemt on extracomps. C-2000 due now My clear understanding with Dick St. Johns was that my fee from the campaign organization was to be for Crpenses $18,000 for the campaign, from January 1 through Election Day. My bill for services rendered was based upon ten months: or $1,800 a month. It was understood that I would be available from Election Day to Inauguration Day because I wouldn't want to miss taking part in those events. Is your figure of $1,500 based on the 12-month period of contract? I am enclosing a copy of a draft of my contract with RN for addition compensation. It is not signed as yet. And, I have received none of this amount as yet. Rad Basically, that part boils down to $6,000 additional compensation for my work on SIX CRISES beyond the time limit specified in our original contract; this was divided so that I received $2,000 as expenses for moving from Connecticut, and $4,000 to be paid early next year. In addition, I WHEXXXXXE am to receive $5,000 additional compansation from RN, early next year, XXX as a guarantee againsk minimum for my other writings, including the columns and whatever magazine pieces which may be done under RN's name. LAW OFFICES OF MELVENY & MYERS BEVERLY HILLS OFFICE 433 SOUTH SPRING STREET 136 EL CAMINO DRIVE DEVERLY HILLS LOS ANGELES 13 CRESTICE 1-5267 MADISON OHIED I CABLE ADDRESS March OUR FILE NUMBER 19th 1962 625,115-1 Mr. Alvin Moscow 104 Reparts Way Santa Monica, California Dear Al: Before I put something into final form re your letter of March 16th, I have the following comments: 1. The two paragraphs dealing with expenses and additional compensation in connection with "SIX CRISSS 574 correct, 2. I will need to know that this is completion of payment and when the $4,000 should be paid. 3. In connection with the writing services during the employment term, my understanding was 0.0 follows: (a) $18,000 base salary (b) $5,000 guaranteed against compensation due in connection with additional writing services, plus a portion of compensation received for articles, etc. in other words, AI, we talked about the $5,000 going for research, etc., In connection with the Times-Mirror articles - one didn't talk about B. rate for future impensation for more columins. I would have to check with Diok. Secondly, it was not 1) under standing that you would receive 612 the compensation paid to Mr. Nixon No 01120108 published under his name on you works: during 1962. For example, we discussed the Digest piece, basically prepared by FOR mother, in which it certainly vsa ml Ha # - Mr. Alvin Moscow - 3/19/62 intent that you receive all the compensa- tion, although 1t was the intent and in fact you did work on it. I anticipated handling this on a piece by piece basis recognizing that you were guaranteed $5,000 surplus compensation over and above the $18,000 base. 4. We did not discuss writing articles under your own name during the term of your employment, but I can see DO objection to this 8.8 long as anything to do with Dick has his approval. I coubt you will have much time if prior campaigns are of any criteria. I am ready too -- let me know. Best regards. Very truly yours, Pichard R. 3t, Johns for O'MELVENY & MYERS RRStJ:jc
