MEMORANDUM FOR :
STEVE BULL
FROM :
L. HIGBY
To confirm our conversation, please add Chapin, Strachan, and
Parker to the Campaign Surrogates Reception on Tuesday. Strachan
is putting together a list of any others on the White House staff who
worked directly in the campaign that should also be included. This
should not include any Domestic Council or NSC people, only White
House Staff people who were directly involved in the campaign.

MEMORANDUM FOR :
JOHN DEAN
FROM &
L. HIGBY
Bob asked that you check with Ed Nixon and determine what his
personal plans are and what his interest might be in serving in
some capacity, perhaps with the Nixon Foundation. Would he
be willing to move to Southern California or is he determined
to stay in the Northwest?
Also, he would like you to check with Don Kendall to see if he
has any feeling on how Ed Nixon could best be utilized. Would
he be good at the Foundation or should be be doing something
else. Any thoughts he had would be appreciated.

MEMORANDUM FOR #
H.R. HALDEMAN
FROM :
L. HIGBY
SUBJECT :
Harry Dent Phone Call Re:
Counsel at RNC
Harry Dent called me informing me that both AP and UPI had
called him last night on a story they had that Dent would be named
Counsel at RNC. The story quoted sources at the Republican
National Committee and contained in it information known only
to Dole. Dent is convinced that Dole leaked this. His response
to both inquiries was that he had not discussed this matter at
all with Bush or the President and had not been asked by either
one of them to serve in that position. That was all he had to
say.

SUBJECT #
Ed Nixon
John Dean reports that he had a very successful conversation
with Ed Nixon and that Ed wants to go to work for the Foundation
on the basis I previously described to you. Ed feels it is necessary
that someone make a public presentation to the Board of Trustees
at the Foundation regarding site selection. He would like to do
this and suggest it be done some time around the 17th of January
while all of them will be back here for the Inaugural. Ed has
pictures of all the sites and feels he could do a very good pre-
sentation. He is very much in favor of the San Clemente site.
After that he would like to start working fulltime on the Foundation.
He feels that there is a lot of work to be done in terms of gathering
materials, visiting other libraries, doing hand-shaking, fund-raising,
speaking, etc. He also indicated Julie would be very interested in
working on this.
Have Dean lock up deal
Other - HRH will call.
Ed has now returned to the West Coast. Dean can proceed to
lock this up or perhaps you would prefer to talk to Ed by phone.

MEMORANDUM FOR :
H.R. HALDEMAN
FROM :
L, HIGBY
Kalmbach called me last night indicating that they'd received
word out there from Lucy Winchester that there was no need
to decorate the house for Christmas. This implied that the
Nixons would not be out there for Christmas. Herb is working
a lot of people unmercifully to finish the kitchen out there by
the 20th, per your instruction. If this is not the case, he'd
like to be able to back off a little bit.
Could we give Herb some indication?

BRUCE KEHRLI
FROM :
L. HIGBY
Will you please check with Clark MacGregor and Fred Malek
and find out who our 20 best state chairmen were and make
sure we follow up with them in some nice way to show how
much we appreciated their work. We've got to be careful
not to let people feel let down after all the work they did in
the campaign. We need to send them something special -
some token that lets them know how we really felt.
