M. Woods [5 of 6, September/October] Document Disposition 30 Return Private/Political September 30, 1969 MEMORANDUM TO: Bob Haldeman Dwight Chapin Hoods cc: Harry Dent FROM: Rose Mary Woods Rest Mary RE: New Jersey Elmer Bobst has written and called me concerning the work he and others are doing to try to be of assistance to Cahill in his campaign for Governor. It has been extremely hard to collect money and many of them are afraid that Meyner will just slip back into the job. The problem with him is that he was not a bad governor - not a good one -- but people have no ill feeling about him and it is apparently hard to work up the needed excitement about the campaign. Needless to say, Mary Roebling and others are saying the President will have to come in to help get Cahill across. Not knowing anything about the New Jersey situation or any decision on whether to go into any campaigns, I am forwarding these thoughts to you people. Someone should get back to Elmer Bobst. THANKS P.S. I am attaching a copy of Elmer Bobst's letter -- his telephone call was just Monday and repeated the problems they are having.
