Haldeman and Charles Colson Thursday, April 8, 1971 5:00 p.m. HELD iN EOB OFFICE. I. PURPOSE: To discuss youth issues and the 18-20 year old vote. II. BACKGROUND: A. This meeting is the result of a Finch/ Colson memorandum to Haldeman of December 9, 1970 (attached as Tab A) and a subsequent Finch memorandum of April 2, 1971 (Tab B) B. Poll data indicates that we do not stand well politically with the 18-20 year old vote; a better organized effort is necessary. III. PROBABLE TALKING POINTS: A. Youth Attitudes: Young people believe that we have rejected their generation; they feel alienated. They tend to stick together; hence, criticism of their life styles (for example, long hair), tends to cause even those who agree with us to feel a part of the group being rejected. The answer here probably lies more in what we say and how we say it rather than what we do. Credibility is an even more critical issue with the youth than with the public at large. B.
