SUGGESTED PRESIDENTIAL STATEMENT ON THE DEATH OF
PABLO CASALS
With the death of Pablo Casals, the world has lost one of
this century's preeminent artists. His place in the cultural life
of America over the years was symbolized by the fact that he
performed at the White House both in 1904 and in 1961 and
received the Nation's highest civilian honor, the Presidential
Medal of Freedom, in 1963.
The music of Casals enriched the lives of millions during his
lifetime and the name Casals will always be identified with
outstanding accomplishment.
