The Suggested Remarks for Republican Fund Raising Dinner
I am told the dinner was excellent, as they always are at these
functions; I know it was a little expensive; but inflation has pushed prices
up all over.
Anyhow, I am confident that we can all afford it this year -- since
we all did SO well in the stock market last year. Arthur Burns told me
to use that line - - he said it always gets him a big laugh and a round of
applause at the Chamber of Commerce luncheons.
You know - - I used to be something of a partisan stump speaker
myself -- in the old days, of course. But I'm really impressed by the
line-up of speakers that were up ahead of me tonight -- John Tower,
Rogers Morton, Bob Wilson and Vice President Agnew; what a team!
And what they have given you is the kind of balanced, fair and objective
commentary that the Vice President has been trying SO hard to get on the
network news.
Speaking of the news, I see where the S.S. Titanic has a new cap-
tain - - Larry O'Brien.

I prefer Rog Morton's style. He took the job the first time we called.
