THE PRESIDENT:
BACKGROUND
One hundred high school seniors, representing 48 States and the
District of Columbia, will gather at American University during
the week of July 17 to participate in the 25th Annual Boys Nation
sponsored by the American Legion. Each participant will have
been selected by an election process at a previous "Boys State"
Convention conducted earlier by the American Legion.
The activities in Washington will include briefings by officials at
the Departments of State and Defense, the FBI, Civil Service, and
a personal welcome from Chief Justice Burger. Additionally, the
boys will visit the Capitol and arrangements have been made for
most of them to have lunch individually with their respective Senators.
One of the highlights of the Boys Nation convention is the election of
the President and Vice President who will carry that title throughout
the coming year.
SEQUENCE OF EVENTS
12:15 p.m.
The 100 Boys Nation delegates will be gathered in
the Rose Garden.
You proceed out to steps of Rose Garden where
single stand-up microphone will be positioned.
You deliver brief remarks of greetings to the
assembled guests (suggested remarks are attached).
