Monday, October 15, 1973
11:00 A. M.
The East Room
On Monday, you will present a total of nine Medals of Honor to servicemen
from the Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force.
SEQUENCE OF EVENTS
11:00 a. m.
Depart Oval Office for East Room.
Secretary of Defense Schlesinger, Secretary of the Army
Callaway, Secretary of the Navy Warner and Secretary
of the Air Force McLucas will be positioned on platform
along center of east wall.
11:05 a.m.
Pause for honors in Grand Hallway with Mrs. Nixon, enter
East Room and proceed directly to platform.
Make opening remarks (suggested remarks attached). (TAB A)
11:10 a. m.
Secretary Callaway reads a brief and generalized Medal
of Honor Citation. It will not include any details with
regard to specific deeds performed by the recipient.
Accompanied by Lt Colonel Golden, you move to the first
recipient and family group to the right of the platform
and present the Medal of Honor. You will meet members
of the recipient's family and pose with the group for a
photograph to be taken by Ollie Atkins.
The name of the next recipient will be announced by the
appropriate Service Secretary. The Citation will not
be read a second time. After the name is announced,
you move to the next recipient and family group and
repeat the presentation as before and continue until all
presentations are completed.
