THE PRESIDENT HAS SEEN
K
SUGGESTED ENERGY STATEMENT, 10 AM, DECEMBER 13, 1973
In the two weeks since I last spoke with you about the
energy crisis, genuine progress has been made by the Federal
Establishment, by the Congress, and most importantly, by the
American people.
The figures we now have indicate that the demand for major
petroleum products was reduced more than 11 percent below the
consumption forecasted for the week ending November 30. The
demand for gasoline was down by more than 15 percent for the
same period.
Clearly what we lack in energy supplies is being supplemented
by the will of the American people in their effort to conserve energy.
The Congress is also moving ahead with the emergency energy
legislation we must have. Several undesirable amendments have
recently been added to the bill, but I am confident they can be
dealt with and that this vital legislation can be signed into law
at an early date.
Yesterday I met with the Energy Emergency Action Group,
and later this morning I will meet with a group of the Nation's
Relations
