THE PRESIDENT HAS SEEN of TAHRA PALACE While President Nixon is in Cairo, President and Mrs. Sadat will reside at Tahra Palace. Tahra Palace, which is near Qubba Palace in Heliopolis, is a charming small building set in a lovely garden. The palace was acquired by the royal family from a private citizen, Muhammad Tahir Pasha, and the surrounding 8 feddans were subsequently added. The Tahra Palace contains some exquisite collections of furniture and clocks. One clock is particularly famous. A copy of the Strasburg Cathedral clock, it shows the time, the phases of the moon, the days of the week, the month, and the weather. In the garden is a beautiful fountain surrounded by statues of Greek goddesses. There are many flowers and shrubs, some of which are very rare. Since the revolution of 1952, Tahra has been used as a guest house. Among the distinguished statesmen who have stayed there are Chancellor Brandt and Lebanese President Camille Chamoun.
