MEMORANDUM
THE WHITE HOUSE
WASHINGTON
July 7, 1971
CONFIDENTIAL
SENSITIVE
MEMORANDUM FOR:
FROM:
JON M. HUNTSMAN
GENERAL ALEXANDER JmH HAIG
SUBJECT:
Top Secret US War Plans
The following was reported in the July 5, 1971 News Summary:
Chicago Sun-Times reports top-secret US war plans under
Ike called for destruction of Red China if US became involved
in a nuclear war with USSR.
...
Taiwan's Amb. to the US
says "an unequivocal statement of support on the part of
the US has become a very important factor" in his gov't's
efforts to retain a UN seat.
...
Harold Wilson has left
up, in the air his position on EEC membership which he once
supported. Heath this week will set down a "White Paper"
urging entry.
It was requested that you note the underlined portion above and
respond as to whether this is, in fact, the top plan? It was suggested
that if it is, we should do some checking.
Please submit your report to the office of the staff secretary.
Thank you.
