ABC's Smith said McG showed "noteworthy candor" in disclosing his top VP choices at Miami and now. On film on all nets McG said HHH, EMK, and Ribicoff still are not interested. Muskie remains at top of speculation w/McG saying Ed will be one of those he'll consult "at length" on the matter. Sevareid again w/not-negative remarks on Muskie. - CBS report and Sevareid commentary on the headaches for the GOP in the "Watergate Caper. 11 Focus continued on the $25,000 check. - ABC led as all nets recounted testimony on the "twisted, frustrated" mind of Bremer as "chilling" excerpts from his diary were read to the jury in an attempt to show he was insane at time of shooting. Emphasis on his frustrated efforts to shoot RN in Canada and the delays in finally getting to Wallace. Defense has now rested and after summations Friday the case will go to the jury. It may, said CBS, set a new modern speed record for major trials. - All nets noted the Senate approved ABM Treaty, 88-2. Tentative holdup on the offensive weapons accord due to anger of Fulbright and other doves over implicit Admin support to a Jackson-Scott reservation. - There'll be a plebescite in N. Ireland to determine if the people wish to unite with the Irish Republic or remain associated with Britain. Film on 2 nets of problems between soldiers and Catholics. - All nets noted Britain declared a state of emergency due to dock strike, thus authorizing the use of troops to load and unload goods. [I] Dow Jones up again over 6 points and thus 23 points in 3 days as it hits 947 w/over 19M shares traded.
