major news of the day:
Watergate indictments w/lengthy leads on all nets w/all reports
starting by naming the 2 ex-WH aides and the 5 who were caught
at DNC. Lengthy film of 4 of the latter in Miami (all but McCord)
as they rapped McG as advocating policies like those pushed in
Cuba before Castro. They emphasized hard-line anti-Comm.
views and belief that Communist conspiracy and traitors threatened
U.S. Defense Atty. Rothblatt said Dem Party is one of the fronts
infiltrated. CBS w/background on "mystery man w/a mustache"
Liddy. Nets noted that when asked who bankrolled operation,
Justice changed from saying "no one else is involved" to "no one
else should be charged. 11
Film on all nets of last hours of the ARVN assault on what's left
of Quang Tri as the S. Viets recaptured the only provincial
capital taken by NVA in offensive. "It's been a good week for
SVN, 11 said Chancellor, as they also turned back NVA push on
Hue.
Very critical Smith commentary on the Lavelle case
no matter who is telling the truth, it's a bad scene, said HKS.

McG called for end of RN's controls as he presented a somewhat
vague plan for guidelines and Presidential power to enact price
rollbacks. No controls on food either and a McG adviser admitted
those prices would rise under McG's farm policy. Film on NBC/
CBS of McG w/Muskie, another Dem who refused his VP offer.
ABC from Columbus on serious attention new voters are giving
to the campaign w/Gallup's stix noted several times and Julie on
film expressing her encouragement.
ABC noted RN's call for anti-hijack action and all noted Swedish
airliner was hijacked by Yugoslav Croats who got their ransom --
7 prisoners held in Sweden.
NBC noted RN call for flood re-
lief programs but generally unfavorable film on Wilkes-Barre
efforts followed.
Film on NBC/ABC w/CBS note on oil spill of Cape Hatteras. Threat seems
seems to be ebbing.
ABC followed w/LA jet noise pollution which
is seriously bothering schoolkids.
