Former McCord lawyer Alch charged during Senate hearings McCord's allegation Alch said he could get CIA employment records forged to show McCord was CIA employee at time of break-in was "absurd and completely untrue, It and he testified present McCord lawyer Fensterwald told him, "We're going after RN. 11 In CBS lead; #2 on NBC; #5 on ABC Schorr said McCord's position changed "dramatically" as Alch brought hearings to a "climax. 11 Chancellor said a "squabble developed" as Alch "indignantly" said McCord wasn't telling the truth. HK Smith said hearings produced "new sensation" w/Alch saying McCord flatly contradicted important elements and making a charge of his own. All nets w/McCord afterward refuting Alch's charges and ABC/CBS w/clip of Fensterwald also. NBC/CBS w/film as Caulfield testified "in my mind" he felt RN was involved in exec clemency offer, and professed his loyalty and strong feeling for RN. NBC/CBS also w/clip of Ulasewicz, former NYPD policeman who served as Caulfield-McCord, intermediary, told Baker to much laughter how he would have conducted Watergate bugging. Chancellor said he produced "1 of the few funny moments" in hearings. - All nets noted RN/GOP Hill leaders meeting, after which Scott described RN as "strong, of good heart and high purpose" (CBS noted, on NBC film) Scott on ABC/NBC film, Ford on NBC, praising RN statement. But said NBC's Duke, despite this "optimistic line" from GOP leaders, statement didn't satisfy many on Hill.
