The major stories of the day:

Israel lifted 97-day siege of Suez City and Egyptian 3rd Army,
completing 1st stage of w/drawal from West Bank of Canal.
Led NBC w/film on all of Israeli soldiers as they sang and
waved gaily from APC
Nets noted Egypt will now do some
thinning out of its own. Unilateral Israeli moveothus far seen
as reflecting their hope that disengagement will lead to overall
settlement.
Nets noted Israelis weren't supposed to take or
destroy any civilian properties, but they did take some SAMs
and blew up some military installations on way back to new
defense line at Mitla Pass.
Growing push for DST repeal noted by all nets. ABC lead and
film on CBS of funeral for Florida boy killed on way to school
altho father didn't blame DST. Given lack of reliable conserva-
tion figures and Hill reluctance to eat crow, Mudd said repeal
won't be all that easy even tho Mansfield and Dole are among
those who see DST as legislative mistake, an inconsequential
saver of energy and a killer of children. Similarly, despite
emotion over issue in Fla. where 8 have been killed compared
to 2 last year, state legislature is searching for options to
outright repeal which will be considered at special session

Chicago drivers face roughest week since e-crisis
began, said NBC w/film noting many stations closing til
Feb. as allocations have run out.
Simon on ABC clip still
hopeful about avoiding rationing, but w/slightly more emphasis
on the problems that need to be solved.

postponed til Judge Bryant receives probation report. 6 months
is likely, said Graham of CBS as he called it "most puzzling"
Wigate case yet as Porter had nothing personal to hide; he wanted to
be a "team player" and spare RN embarrassment of W'gate.
ABC also noted that quote of CREP's scheduling director
Steve Bull also on film on all nets w/NBC-CBS clips as he said
he has no idea how tape was erased. He's sure he didn't do it
