W/excerpts from their book, "All the President's Men" in
Playboy, Woodward and Bernstein say they got much of their info
from persons close to WH. Major informants included Sloan,
a woman bookeeper for Stans at CRP, and the still unidentified
"Deep Throat" whose position in exec branch was "extremely
sensitive" and "who had access to info from WH, Justice, FBI
and CRP. 11 "Deep Throat" told them RN once went "on a rampage
about leaks, 11 suggesting money left over from campaign "might
as well as beeused to take the Post down a notch. 11
Woodward had known "Deep Throat" since long before W'gate.
And the source "never tried to inflate his knowledge
He was,
incongruously, an incurable gossip, careful to label rumore for
what it was, but fascinated by it, 11 And "Deep Throat" claims Gray
not FBI nod after he told WH he'd "contained the investigation
judiciously, that it wasn't fair he was being singled out to take the
heat. He implied all hell could break loose if he wasn't able to stay
permanently and keep the lid on. 11
Schorr said IRS became aware of Hughes contribution over 2 years
ago and that agent concluded in '73 when Rebozo was finally questioned
that he was truthful. When Schorr asked if case had been reopened
