(Wed. nets, wires. Digest separate.)
The major stories of the day:
- - RN "personally decided" to delete 3/22 "stonewall" conversation,
led NBC w/ all nets noting RZ said decision was based on "dubious
relevancy" of the material and asserting his strong belief that
Comm. version taken in its entirety in no way contradicts RN's
past statements. And tho reaction among Judiciary MCs differed
on t'scripts' impact, CBS called overall Hill reaction "mild"
w/ Mudd reporting that even tho his 4-letter word usage is better
defined now, RN "could feel relieved" that as Star's Germond
wrote, the "smoking pistol" has yet to be found in RN's hand.
-- RN told Ellsberg jury he never authorized Fielding break-in. In
the 6 written interrogatories he said plumbers' mission was to
stop leaks under JDE's "general supervisory control¹¹ and repeat-
ed that he 1st learned of break-in 3/17. In what CBS called DC's
"latest litigation spectacular HAK testified for 90 seconds,
answering 1 question on direct, 2 on cross. He denied authorizing
Young to obtain psychological profile on Ellsberg and said he had
no knowledge that such a profile was wanted or even in the works.
RN/HAK testimony led ABC/CBS (#3 NBC) w/nets noting they were
last witnesses. Arguments Thurs., case to jury Fri.
UPI leads: "Senate W'gate Comm. report suggests RN used more
than $50, 000 in campaign funds -- including some Hughes contrib-
utions -- to improve his KB property and buy diamond earrings for
his wife's birthday present. " All nets noted. Report said funds
were channeled thru secret fund set up by Rebozo from campaign
funds he'd collected for RN. All nets noted WH called report
"warmed over baloney" w/ NBC/CBS noting JSC said he'd already
replied to Comm. that RN never instructed Rebozo to raise or
maintain any money in his behalf as report contends.

stemming from effort to raise funds in exchange for influencing
govt housing and mortgage money. All nets noted.
