YOUTH 1. Democrats signing up Young Voters at rates two-and-a-half times that of GOP. Why ? What does this mean for GOP? More Democratic Parents than Republicans -- big reason. GOP party in office, young tend to go with the challengers rather than incumbents. President in office who must make decisions, indeed make compromises, less attractive than those who can offer all- or-nothing from a podium, without the responsibility. Easy thing to vote for all troops home by the end of year -- less easy to accomplish, less easy to bear the responsibility of such a decision. Historically young people are more idealistic, less concerned with cost of things, than their desirability. Youth excited about new "life styles", but RN is not going to abandon his own principles to make them more consistent with theirs. We will be judged by what happens to their generation - - not by how many of their votes we acquire. Our forte is not personality; it is performance; if we bring a volunteer army, end the war, being the war on pollution, etc.
