Dear Mendel:
I want you to know how pleased I am that you will be
on the California delegation favoring my nomination at the
Republican National Convention.
I am, of course, grateful for the friendship and sup-
port you have shown me over the past years, but I think it
understandable that I should particularly appreciate your
desire to be counted in my corner in Chicago. I shall look
forward to seeing you there, and in the meantime I hope you
will do everything within your power to prepare for the
united and determined effort which will be necessary if the
Republican Party is to win in our State this November.
While I wish it had been possible for many of our
mutual friends and Party workers to have been able to serve
on this delegation, I believe you will agree with me that
the screening committees in making their selections con-
cluded with a delegation broadly representative of a Party
well on its way to rejuvenation in California.
With every good wish,
Sincerely,
Richard Nixon
