S appts 8/24/61 Mendel Silberberg called: 1. Still wants to bring in the Consul General of Israel when RN has a chance to shake hands - I told him we would be in touch with him when RN was finished with his writing commitment and could work out appointments in the office. 2. Silberberg said he was not pushing - obviously the man is pushing him but that he just wanted to have an answer. However, he thinks a brief handshake might be a good idea. On the governorship -- He said only history can prove whether it is right or wrong to run and no one can tell now - either way there will be something which might make you think the other way later. He said - there is certain advantage in this governorship. I am a little bit afraid to bet that this man in Washington can be beaten in 1964 because the American people seem to re-elect a man unless there is some reason not to. Heavens knows if the election were held today there would be no doubt that RN would win but when it comes to 1964 it may be different. Whether RN can carry himself in the public eye for almost six years is a difficult thing to say -- and even more difficult to do. jkx I am glad I don't have to make the decision.
