Dear Mendel:
Even though you have already received our formal
acknowledgment of appreciation of your letter of November 8,
I did want to avail myself of this delayed opportunity to thank
you personally for your thoughtfulness.
You were certainly most generous in your comments
with regard to my contribution to the campaign. Your remark
about the Cornell appearance was particularly interesting. I
don't think I have ever experienced a half hour in which I felt
I had to be more on my toes than on that occasion. And after
Mendel:
we went off the air, the questions continued at the same pace
for another forty minutes!
B.
I want you to know how deeply I have appreciated the
counsel and friendship you have extended to me during the years
folder
of my public life. Whenever the going gets tough, I am always
heartened by the fact that I have a few real friends like yourself
who never fail to stand up when the chips are down.
Pat joins me in sending our best wishes for the New
Year.
Sincerely,
Richard Nixon
