Dear Uncle Hank:
Thank you for your contribution to the White House
Historical Association.
I hope all is well with you and the family. If you
are interested, which I am sure you are not, in a visit
to Washington, we would love to have you.
As I am sure you gathered long ago, I changed my mind
and did not accept your good advise to stay home and make
money.
My best regards to all.

Dear Mike:
You will find enclosed a check payable to
the White House Historical Association for $100.00,
which you can give to Mrs. Reagan for payment on the
White House improvements which she is undertaking.
In my rather biased opinion, the biggest
White House improvement had already been concluded
when the voters moved Carter out of it.
Regards!
Very truly yours,

Thank you for your good note and for bringing me up

One of the very nicest things about all of this notoriety

Re: 44th Medical Service Squadron
USAF Reserve
Dear Mike:
After reading the latest comments about you in Newsweek
(February 2), I was moved to write a letter of congratulations for
your personal success in what often seemed to me to have been an
impossible goal.
The last time you and I spoke was in the Governor's office
when I was in my first year of law school at UCD. Since then, I have
vicariously enjoyed reading about your rise in political fortunes.
You were my first exposure to a truly political oriented
individual in the conversations we had during our monthly reserve
meetings in San Jose. I later marvelled at your dedication to our
now President Reagan. Of course, you have been justly rewarded for
your tenacity and loyalty and those of us who knew you "back when"
are proud to be able to say so.
Your vivid stories of wildlife in Africa, your easy
camaraderie with the other Reservists and your musicianship at the
Interlude are fondly remembered and I thought you might like to know
that.
Congratulations.

One of the wonderful things about this job is hearing
from old friends. I have heard from a good number of
fraternity brothers and they all seem to be doing well

I don't know when I will get out to the Bay Area again,
but will keep your number in case I do. Let us know if
you ever get out our way and I will arrange for a White

Dear Mike,
The last time Carole and I saw you was in 1965 after College graduation
and you were playing the piano at the Interlude! Can you believe it? Since
then, we have lived in Texas, Maryland, Wisconsin and returned to Califor-
nia in 1977 with two children. I didn't know you were with the Republican
party in Sacramento with then, Governor Reagan. In any event, sincere con-
gratulations in your tremendous success with the Republican party.
Mike, if you and your wife ever visit the Bay area, please call us. If you
have some time, perhaps, we can get together for dinner. Our resident tele-
phone number is (415) 938-4965. Do you ever see any of the group from the
fraternity, i.e. Dixon, Dave Jorden, etc.?
When you have some spare time, let us hear from you.
Kindest regards
Sincerely,

Thank you very much for your letter and
for the invitation to participate in the

Dear Mike:
Margaret and I wish to thank you and Caroline for
helping make our attendance at various Presidential In-
auguration ceremonies possible.
We finally were able to make it to the Gala, the
Ball, and the Distinguished Women's Reception, in addition
to the Inauguration itself and the Parade. One of your
aides, Joe Canzeri, was particularly helpful in this re-
spect.
On an entirely different matter -- in her letter
of February 4, 1981, Sister Mary Celestine, who is Pres-
ident of Mercy Hospitals of Sacramento (Mercy General,
Mercy San Juan and Mercy Twin Lakes) asked if you can
possibly be the keynote speaker at the opening of the
new Mercy General Hospital on Thursday, April 2, 1981.
A copy of her letter is enclosed.
As a member of the Governing Board of those three
hospitals I was asked to touch bases with you inasmuch
as Sister Celestine has not heard from you. Your par-
ticipation in the opening of the new hospital would mean
a great deal to the entire Sacramento community. We
sincerely hope you will be able to accept the invitation.
Thank you again for all the help that you gave us.
Best wishes to you both.
Sincerely yours,
Peter F. Mancina

Dear Mr. Deaver:
I am delighted to extend our congratulations to you, and to add
your name to our list of public officials who will receive MONEY
Magazine during 1981.
MONEY Magazine, a publication of Time Incorporated, deals with the
subject that seems to be uppermost in the minds of Americans today:
Personal Finance. It is designed to keep its nearly 4 million
readers informed about the economy as it relates to their own lives,
and to help them manage and prosper in these challenging times.
MONEY's March issue may be of special interest to you. It presents
key aspects of a plan designed to further the nation's approach to
a renewal of its institutions and its very spirit. In combination
with related sections appearing in Time Incorporated's six other
publications, it should constitute a significant contribution to
the national debate on this vital topic.
Again, please accept my best wishes. And if you should have any
comments or criticisms regarding MONEY, I would be delighted to
hear from you.
Cordially,
John U. U. Crandell Gandell
