Dear Mr. Deaver,
As Chairman of the Spotters Committee for the Holton Arms
Auction this year, it is my privilege to inform you that you
have been selected to be a spotter at the 1984 - 10th Anniversary
Auction to be held at the Shoreham Hotel, on the evening of
March 17, 1984.
As spotters can make or break an auction, it is felt that
your presence in the spotter capacity would be a tremendous
asset to the success of the auction.
Our goal for this year's 10th Anniversary Auction is to net
$100,000, a reachable objective in light of the many generous
donations we have received thus far.
Some of the items to be auctioned this year include: airline
tickets all over the world; a hot-air balloon ride over the
Rockies; a fishing trip to Bimini; jewelry; PMI parking for
a year; a $1000 gift certificate from Saks Fifth Avenue;
a Porsche automobile; and wind surfing lessons, to name a few.
As you can see, we have been most fortunate in the response
from the Holton Community for this year's auction. The enthusiasm
and support we are receiving is heartwarming.
Spotters will be asked to take one-half hour to three-quarter
hour shifts between 9:00 and 10:30 pm. When you decide to accept
this honorary position, and if you plan to leave early, please
advise.

As part of your acceptance of this position one of your
primary responsibilities will be facilitating the bidding
process during the auction. Each spotter is also requested

Antonio was in Los Angeles over the weekend and over 247 SIN Network
channels. He announced he wished he could vote because if he could, there
is only one man in the world who would get his vote -- YOU. This was on
the Mundo Latino Show. It aired at 11:00 here in Arizona, 1:00 p.m. in the
East. A very nice endorsement. Also, on KWKW in Los Angeles, Antonio did
the same thing.
For your information, the owner of "La Opinion", the leading Spanish
newspaper in Los Angeles now endorses you. This man employs over 300
people on his paper so this is no small one-man-desk operation. So
congratulations. You see, like I said, everyone loves you. We're well on
to and after the Hispanics and believe me when I say the best is yet to come.
Just a suggestion. When Mexico owes us so much, how can they afford
to give (not sell or loan but give) oil to Castro and Nicaragua? When they
borrow from us this should be pointed out to them. One can be our friend or
our foe, one can't be both. Since the Mexican President will be visiting
Antonio's home this week, I suggested he remind the man of this. Not that it
will do any good but it should upset his stomach. I hope so.
Nice of the British to loan money to Russia, along with the West
Germans. You keep the Russians on a short leash and they lend them needed
cash. Maybe they should repay us too since they have so much to lend.
The reason I mention this, there are items that are discussed in the
street. Perhaps the State Department and the banks should also help in
reducing our national debt too. Where I come from, everyone helps mother
when she's in trouble
and mother is in trouble
and everyone in the street
knows that too.
If Cap (the Knife) wants his name to be what it once was, he can
shake up the Pentagon and stop their wastefulness. If they can't put their
house in order or be trusted to help mother, then private industry will. It
can too. Competitive bids usually get everyone's attention. He should lay
the law down to them. He's letting them give you a black eye here and in
an election year too!

For the past two years I have sought unsuccessfully to perform
my magic show at the annual White House Easter Egg Hunt. I am
fully aware that the committee which selects the performers for this
event has a difficult task. However, I cannot comprehend why I have
not been afforded fair opportunity for selection to perform.
My denial for permission to perform is the result of the fact
that the Director of the Visitor's Office, Mrs. Carol McCain, has,
in a rude fashion, refused to return my telephone calls, acknowledge
receipt of any of my publicity materials, or to ever allow me a full
telephone conversation with her without hanging up on me. Naturally,
I feel that I have been dealt with in a most unfair manner, and I
am appealing to you to either provide me with the opportunity to
perform for the selection committee or explain why I am not receiving
a fair chance to perform. Your prompt attention to this matter
would be greatly appreciated.

FUNERAL FOR CLARENCE MITCHELL, JR.
The funeral for civil rights leader Clarence Mitchell, Jr.
will be this Friday at noon in Baltimore. Mitchell was the
older brother of Congressman Parren Mitchell (D-MD), who has
introduced enterprise zone legislation, as well as the
father of Maryland State Senator Clarence Mitchell, III, who
has been very helpful to me in working with black elected
officials.
I understand that a condolence letter to the family as well
as a statement by the President are in the works. I wanted
to bring to your attention the question of how to coordinate
the Administration's representation at the funeral. There
will be quite a bit of attention given to the funeral and I
expect that the Reverend Jesse Jackson, among other
political leaders, will attend.
I am planning to attend and I know that Jack Svahn, who has
good relationships with the Maryland black community, is
also planning to attend.

condolences signed by RR which Verstandig
will present to the family when he
attends today's services. Larry released
the letter at 10:00, and noted that Lee
was attending and would deliver it.
