United States Representation at the
Inaugural Ceremonies of the President
of the Republic of Maldives
This Government has accepted the invitation of the Government
of Maldives to be represented at the ceremonies incident to the
inauguration of His Excellency Maumoon Abdul Gayoom who was
recently reelected as President of the Republic of Maldives. These
ceremonies are scheduled to be at Male on November 11, 1983.
There is transmitted herewith the letter accrediting Vernon A.
Walters, Ambassador at Large, as your Personal Representative, with
the rank of Special Ambassador, to these ceremonies.

Desiring to give evidence of my appreciation of the cordial relations existing

Ambassador, to attend the ceremonies incident to your inauguration as President of the
Republic of Maldives.
I have entire confidence that Ambassador Walters will be acceptable to you in the
distinguished duty with which I have invested him.
I therefore ask that you receive my Personal Representative favorably and accept
from him the renewed assurances of my high regard and of the friendship which he
bears of the Government and people of the United States of America for you and the
