STATEMENT FOR THE VICE PRESIDENT
Ladies and Gentlemen:
I am deeply xh heartened by the Doctors' reports of the
President's condition -- that he had emerged from this
terrible experience in such good condition
and with excellent prospects for XXX recovery. ******** I've
talked **** with the the First kdad Lady, and she reports that
thePresident is in high good spirits.
I can хиник reassure the entire Nation -- and a watching
world -- that the American government is fucntioning fully
and effectively. We have had full and complete communications
throughout this tragedy, and the officers of the Federal
G overnment have been fulfilling their constitutional obligations
with great EXXEXXXE skill and care.
RMX During the President's recovery, I am totally
confident that we will continue to function efficiently.
Wexshatt Qf funke I anticipate no problems at all in our
ability to continue to carry out all duties of this administration.

We are prayerful. We are sober about our duties. We

I know I speak on behalf of the President and the Frist

Ladies and gentlemen:
I want to report briefly on the condition of the President who
was
wounded this afternoon along with James Brady, his
press secretary, and two courageous law enforcement officers.
I am confident that the President has begun what I and all Americans
hope and pray will be a full and speedy recovery. I am deeply
heartened by the reports of the doctors and I know that so many
Presedent Receipon)
millions of Americans who have come to love him and his family in
so short a time are equally encouraged.
Mrs. Reagan, I am pleased to state, is in good spirits, in

I want to reassure / you the American people that following

the senseless assult on the President, this government has continued
and will continue to function in the most effective manner possible
his
in order to carry out the programs and policies of the President
During the time the President is recovering, and I expect that This
time period to be very short, the Cabinet and other, officials of this
government will continue to operate in effeciency a highly effective manner
both for the President and his programs and for the benefit of the
American people.
To those nations abroad, foreign Cheir leaders should know that this
nation will fully exercise its duties and responsibilities throughout
the world. President Reagan has built the foundations of a strong
federal government and because of his leadership, in selecting
the men and women to important positions of government he has
selected individuals who are able to carry out the role he has
dividion of foreign offore
established for the United States of America.
Finally, I ask all of you to join with me in asking your
God for a the fast and most complete recovery for the President
and for those who were stricken with him today. I am very confident
that our these prayers will be quickly and fully answered.
Thank you and good night.
