Dear Mr. President:
In a letter I sent you January 19, I thanked you for your generous
support in making the :30 second spot on the International Games for
Special Olympics. Now I am pleased to be able to give you a preliminary
report on the tremendous response we've received from the television networks
in getting the spot played.
All three networks-- ABC, CBS, and NBC-- are playing the spot throughout
the month of March. In many cases, in prime time slots. On CBS, for
example, it ran in the CBS morning news slot the week of March 12th and
is scheduled for that time period the week of the 26th.
On ABC, it is scheduled in the prime time rotation for the entire
month and for "Nightline" the week of March 21st. On NBC, it is scheduled
in the prime time rotation, too, and aired during the 8 - 9 P.M. slot
featuring the "A Team"-- one of their most popular shows-- on March 12.
Of course a full accounting will be available at the end of the month.
In addition, our Special Olympics Chapter Directors have made the spot
available to all the television stations in their states. I am told they
are receiving a tremendous response everywhere!
Again, thank you for honoring our special friends with this most
marvelous tribute to their courage and determination.
Sincerely,
Eunice Kennedy Shriver
