KOULOUMBIS ASSERTED THAT THE EFFICIENCY OF THE SECURITY SYSTEM AT THE ATHENS AIRPORT HAD BEEN "ASCERTAINED" BY SPOT CHECKS CARRIED OUT BY REPRESENTATIVES OF IATA AND OF THE U.S. AND FRG CIVIL AVIATION SERVICES DURING VISITS BETWEEN FEBRUARY AND MAY OF THIS YEAR. KOULOUMBIS PRODUCED A LIST OF HIJACKINGS WORLDWIDE FROM 1978 TO 1984 SHOWING THAT THERE HAD BEEN ONLY TWO HIJACKINGS IN GREECE, COMPARED WITH 43 IN OTHER PARTS OF EUROPE, 62 IN THE U.S. AND 104 IN OTHER COUNTRIES.
